Raw hides can be used to simulate a dog's wild instinct. Many dogs, especially young dogs, have a chewing instinct. Raw hides give dogs and puppies the ability to chew on an acceptable 'toy', while benefiting from the mechanical action of chewing, which exerts pressure on the gums and teeth for a tooth-fixing effect.
