Shrimp and crab feed requires low puffing degree and high hardness to prevent excessive dispersion in water and facilitate feeding during molting. The extruder temperature is controlled at 110-130℃, 20-30℃ lower than ordinary fish feed, reducing porosity; pressure is maintained at 3-4MPa to ensure compact pellets; screw speed is increased to 350-400r/min to shorten raw material residence time and reduce puffing degree. The cutter speed is adapted to the die orifice diameter, controlling the pellet size to 0.5-2mm to accommodate different sizes of shrimp and crabs.


Formula optimization: Balancing nutrition and puffing adaptability

Shrimp and crabs have higher protein requirements than fish. The proportion of fishmeal and shrimpmeal in the formula is increased to 30%-40%, plant protein to 20%-25%, and starch to 25%-30%, avoiding excessive puffing due to high starch content. Adding 2%-3% chitosan enhances the molting ability of shrimp and crabs, while also adding appropriate amounts of calcium and phosphorus to meet their growth needs. The raw materials are ground to a fine particle size (100 mesh or finer) to ensure a smooth texture and prevent injury to the shrimp and crab intestines, while also adapting to the low-temperature operation requirements of wet fish feed making machines.


Post-processing adaptation: Improving feed water resistance

Shrimp and crab feed requires stronger water resistance; after extrusion, it needs to be coated. Wet fish food making machines can be equipped with a simple coating device to spray a waterproof coating agent after the pellets cool, extending the stability time in water to 4-6 hours. Simultaneously, the drying moisture content is controlled to 10%-11%. Through the synergy of extruder parameters and post-processing, the feed is ensured to be less prone to disintegration in the aquaculture environment, improving utilization.
