Differences Between wet pet food extruder machine &Dry fish feed pellet extruder machine
January 22, 2026
Differences in Operating Principles: Moisture Control is Key
Wet pet food making machines require the addition of 10%-20% moisture to the raw materials, using a low temperature of 80-100℃ and low pressure of 2-4MPa for extrusion. The high material moisture content eliminates the need for subsequent drying, directly producing high-moisture pellets. Dry extruders, on the other hand, do not require additional water. They rely on frictional heat (120-160℃) and high pressure (3-5MPa) for extrusion, producing pellets with low moisture content. These pellets need to be dried to 10%-12%, making them suitable for dry pet food production. This difference makes wet extruders more suitable for the moisture requirements of wet pet food.
Product and Nutritional Differences: Adapting to Different Palatability Needs
Wet dog food extruders produce soft, chewy pellets with high moisture content, resulting in better palatability. The low-temperature process retains over 80% of heat-sensitive nutrients, making them suitable for puppies, senior pets, and pets with sensitive stomachs. Dry extruder pellets are harder and crispier, with better storage resistance, but the high temperature causes some nutrient loss, making them more suitable for daily feeding of adult pets. From a product perspective, wet extrusion equipment can directly produce wet pellets suitable for filling, while dry extrusion equipment requires additional processing to meet the needs of wet pet food.
Energy consumption and maintenance differences: Wet equipment is more targeted.
Wet dog food maker machines operate at low temperatures, reducing energy consumption by 20%-30% compared to dry extruders. However, the high moisture environment places higher demands on the equipment's sealing and corrosion prevention. Maintenance requires thorough cleaning of residual materials in the extruder to prevent mold and rust. Dry extruders operate at high temperatures and pressures, resulting in higher energy consumption, but the materials are dry, making cleaning and maintenance easier, and eliminating the need for additional waterproofing and corrosion prevention measures.
