If primarily producing cat food, when choosing a small cat food making machine, pay close attention to the extruder's "fine pellet forming capability" and "low-temperature cooking adjustment." Cats have small mouths; kitten food pellets need to be 1-2mm, and adult cat food pellets need to be 2-3mm. Therefore, the extruder must be equipped with a die of the corresponding fine aperture, and the die should be easy to replace. Simultaneously, cats have high protein requirements, and their feed formulations often contain a high proportion of fishmeal and chicken meal. Therefore, choose an extruder with a temperature that can be precisely adjusted to 120-130℃ to avoid damaging protein nutrients at high temperatures. The screw speed should support an adjustable range of 350-400 rpm to ensure that high-protein ingredients are fully cooked, improving digestibility and absorption. Furthermore, cat food needs a crisp texture; choose an extruder with a stable pressure of 3-5 MPa to ensure the pellets are porous and crisp.

If primarily producing dog food, choose a pet food extrusion machine with adjustable capabilities tailored to the size of the dogs. Small dogs (such as Poodles and Bichon Frises) require 2-3mm pellets, medium-sized dogs (such as Huskies and Golden Retrievers) require 3-5mm pellets, and large dogs require 5-8mm pellets. Therefore, the extruder needs to be equipped with multiple die heads with apertures covering 2-8mm. Dog food formulations have a relatively high proportion of grains and soybean meal, requiring an extruder with a screw length-to-diameter ratio of 15:1-20:1 to ensure sufficient starch gelatinization. The extruder temperature should be adjustable to 130-140℃, and the speed to 300-400 rpm to adapt to different formulation requirements. Older dogs with worn teeth require softer feed; therefore, the extruder needs to support "low-pressure extrusion" adjustment, producing low-hardness pellets by reducing the extrusion pressure (2-3 MPa).

If you plan to produce both cat and dog food simultaneously, you should choose a small pet food extrusion machine with "flexible adjustment of multiple parameters." The extruder should have a temperature range of 120-140℃, a speed range of 300-400 rpm, and a pressure range of 2-5 MPa. It should be equipped with a quick-change die head device, allowing for switching between cat food and dog food dies within minutes. It should also support parameter storage for different formulas, allowing for preset production parameters for cat food and dog food of different sizes, which can be recalled with a single click to improve production efficiency. Furthermore, if producing functional pet food (such as hypoallergenic or prescription food), the extruder should be made of food-grade stainless steel and be easy to clean to avoid cross-contamination between different formulas.
